Born in London on August 25, 1954, Declan Patrick MacManus took the stage name Elvis Costello in the late 1970s, when he was first signed to a record label. Benjamin Bradlee, born in Boston, Massachusetts, was the executive editor of the Washington Post during the publication of the Pentagon Papers and the breaking of the Watergate Scandal. Bradlee began as a reporter for the Washington Post and Newsweek in Paris, before becoming the editor from 1968 to 1991.
Guillaume Apollinaire,the French poet of Polish-Italian parentage, participated in all the avant-grade movements of the early 20th century. His poetry was characterized by unusual word play, to the extent that he became known as the herald of Surrealism. He was killed while fighting in World War I.
